short film
directed by Benjamin Dressler
Germany / USA, 2010
(c) Steinmann / Dressler
The film: This short is the story of Piet, a young gamer who faces two major threats to his personal happiness: his therapist and the ultimate dragon. So he fights both battles, and the longer he fights, the more Piet has the feeling that only one battle can be won in this endeavor... A crossmedial comedy containing live action, as well as scenes from the online game World of Warcraft.
The score: The score is epic and orchestral - horns and timpani in first row, this time. A major choir can be heard in many of the various short tracks of the score. But electronic sounds are part of the compositions just as well - connecting classical orchestra scoring and modern electronics. Although the score contains various relatively independent suites, one central leitmotif was used: Piet's theme, which shows up four times.
The theme song: The film features a pop song, written and composed by Robert, that was beautifully sung by young Charlotte Pensel: the official /afk theme song "Sorry Ways"! You can download the song (as well as the complete soundtrack) on iTunes, supporting the whole creative crew of /afk. Furthermore, you can download the lyrics!
